E-mail-to-SMS gateway solution for GpsGate
This guide explains in details how to send email-to-SMS alerts from GpsGate to mobile phones using the SMTP server of Ozeki NG SMS Gateway. It is also explained how you can select an event for sending email-to-SMS alerts to a selected user. By following the instructions below you can setup an impressive SMS system.
Before you start configuration, please check Internet based SMS connections vs. GSM modem based (wireless) SMS connections >>>. Based on this article you can make a decision which connection is the best for your environment to send out SMS messages from your system to cellsphones.
Please also make sure
you meet the following preparations:
- It is assumed that Ozeki NG SMS Gateway has been downloaded and installed on the PC
- Ozeki NG SMS Gateway has already been configured for sending SMS messages
- DNS 'A' record has been configured on the computer on which Ozeki NG has been installed
- There is an available GpsGate server
Configuration steps for GpsGate SMS solution
Ozeki NG SMS Gateway has already been downloaded and installed on the PC (Figure 1).
Log into Ozeki NG SMS Gateway with your username and password (Figure 2).
Go to Edit menu and select Server preferences menu item (Figure 3).
Select Email forwarding tab in Server preferences menu (Figure 4).
In Email to SMS tab please specify the follows (Figure 5):
Check Enable email to SMS forwarding (enables the built in SMTP server) checkbox.
Specify the full domain name that will be used for reaching the Email to SMS
server at DNS hostname that points to the IP address of this SMS gateway field.
You can customize the port if it is required at SMTP port of the built in SMTP server field.
If authentication is needed, enable Require SMTP authentication checkbox.
You can specify which part of the email should be sent as SMS: Only the email
subject, Only the email body, Both the Email subject and body.
You can also specify the character limit for SMS text messages. Please note that
if the limit is not specified the whole email message will be sent as multipart SMSs.
Finally, click on OK.

Log into the site admin of the GpsGate server with your username and password (Figure 6).
Go to Settings and select Email option (Figure 7).
Fill in the Email settings form. Enter the Sender E-mail Address and SMTP Server Hostname (Figure 8).
Below you can find Test settings section (Figure 9). If you fill in To, Subject and Message fields and click Send you can test your settings. Please note that to send a test message, please provide the recipient in To field as follows: telnum@smsgw.yourcompany.com
You can see the sent test message in the Sent box of admin user in Ozeki NG SMS Gateway (Figure 10).
Set Email-to-SMS forwarding functionality to an event in GpsGatew software
Log into GpsGate software as admin user in the main page (Figure 11).
Select Admin menu and click on Users menu item (Figure 12).
Select the user you wish to send the email-to-SMS alert to (Figure 13).
In the appeared panel fill in the Email: edit box as follows: telnum@smsgw.yourcompany.com (Figure 14). Click on Save.
To add a new tag, still in Admin menu select Tags menu item and click on Add new (Figure 15).
Enter a name for the new tag and select the users that will be the member of this tag (Figure 16). Click on Save.
Now still in Admin menu select Event rules to select the event about which you wish to send Email-to-SMS alerts. You can select an existing event, in this case click on Edit next to the event (Figure 17). If you wish to add a new event click on Add new Event Rule.
In the appeared panel you will find 5. Notifications section. Here click on the (+) sign to add a new notification (Figure 18).
In the drop down menu select Email as notification (Figure 19).
Then select the Recipients (the created tags will appear, select the required tag), enter the Subject and Message (Figure 20).
Finally, click on Save (Figure 21)
After you configured this solution according to this guide
your system will work as follows:
If the selected event occurs, an alert arrives at Ozeki NG SMS Gateway and the
SMS gateway will send out the Email-to-SMS alert to the intended recipient.
